If you have been searching for the perfect construction job, and have been on multiple interviews, but still have no job offers, you may be hurting your chances of landing the job. While there seem to be amble job openings in the construction industry, hiring managers are still not just going to hand you the job, you have to prove you are worthy. Stop hurting your chances of getting the job by following these simple rules:
- Follow-up after the interview is something often overlooked in the construction industry. It is important that you not only do a follow-up with the hiring manager, but that you do it correctly. First of all, do the follow-up – it shows that you are invested and interested in the company and the position. Secondly, make sure to follow-up within the appropriate time frame. If they told you they will make a decision with a couple of days, follow-up within 24 hours.
- You must be honest and clear about your intentions. When you remain vague on your resume, application, and in the interview, you leave too much room for the hiring manager to come to their own conclusions. Do not withhold information.
- If you ignore social media, you are saying to the hiring manager you really just don’t care. Hiring managers will research you on social media, therefore, you must stay active. It is also important that you remember your social media profile is an extension of you, so make sure you are careful in what you post.
- Make sure you do your research on the company before attending an interview. It is important that you show passion for your industry, but that you show the hiring manager you want to work for the company.
Many job candidates today are hurting their chances of ever getting the job of their dreams, simply because they forget to follow these simple rules.
