As a construction job candidate, you might need some help in designing and creating a resume that will grab the attention of hiring managers. However, use caution when choosing a resume service. While many can put together a few sentences, there are only a few that have the skills necessary to make your resume really stand out. Here are a few things to keep in mind when considering a resume service:
- Experience – this is one situation where experience really does matter. The more construction resumes they have done, the better! Ask them how many construction resumes they have completed, and even ask for some references in your field.
- Face Time – many resume services will just have you complete a form and then they construct the resume from that. To get the best resume, reflecting you and your personality, you need to meet with the person writing your resume.
- Delivery – make sure you are aware of the time it will take for them to construct your resume and deliver it to you. Is it within your timeframe? In addition, make sure that you understand what format your resume will be delivered in. Will it be in a format you can manipulate or one where you will need to contact them for every change?
- Updates – look for a service that includes updates in their pricing. As you know, it is best to update your resume with each position you apply, specific to that job ad. Make sure you understand how updates are done, if they are included, and what is the cost if not.
- Writer – ask to meet the writer or team of writers that will be working on your project. This is helpful to get to know each other and connect. It is easier for the writer to create the resume when they know you, and you will feel more comfortable once you know the writer.
If you plan on using a resume service, it is important that you consider all of these tips before hiring a company to write such an important document for you.
