As you know, safety is a big concern for many construction companies. In fact, many hiring managers specifically look for resumes that list safety courses on their resume. Do you? Adding safety courses to your resume is not only a great way to showcase your added skills, but many companies are requiring it today.
There are many opportunities you can take advantage of to get the required safety training, with some even providing certification. Here are a few reasons why adding safety courses to your resume are so important:
- Taking the initiative to do the required safety training on your own, shows that you are serious about your work, and safety. This is something that every hiring manager wants to see! Make sure that you list every course and certification you have in safety on your resume.
- General construction safety is something that every construction worker must have, however, there are many specialized safety courses available. Specific training for concrete and masonry, excavation, fall and scaffolding protection, and electrical safety are all available. You should consider adding some of the more specialized training if you work in any of these areas.
- When you take the time to get your training and certifications before applying for jobs, you immediately increase your value in many hiring managers eyes. When a hiring manager does not have to send you to safety training, it allows them to get you on the work site faster – which is very cost effective for them.
Adding safety courses and training to your resume is a great way to get noticed, and go to the top of the pile for interviews. Safety is a requirement for every hire, however, when you take it upon yourself to get the necessary training, you suddenly are very valuable to many hiring managers. Consider doing your training before applying.
